I served a full time mission

Posted by: Rayleen   in

I wrote a post about serving a full time mission for Jesus Christ to share His restored gospel with whomever was willing to listen. You can read it at I Volunteered for This??? Mormon Missions

As a full time missionary, the Holy Spirit changed my heart. I’m trying now to reach again the spirituality I enjoyed then. My heart’s desire as a missionary was to serve God and be an instrument in His hands. It was wonderful and it changed my life forever. Now my greatest challenge is to seek that level of spirituality while still balancing the demands and expectations of a life in the world: work, school, family, church, friends, community, fun, etc.

Of all the things I learned as a missionary, I mostly  value the courage to trust God and look forward to the potential He has for each of His children through His Son Jesus Christ.

Latter-day Saint (Mormon) missionaries only talk with their families on the phone twice a year, Christmas and Mother’s Day. In the mission where I served, we could email home weekly and then friends and family could write snail mail back. It’s not unusual for mail to taper off the longer you’re gone.:)

As missionaries we had to wear nylons. So Grandma-ish, I know. I made fun of them frequently. I have lots of pics making fun of them. This one is a sample.:)

Missionaries see lots of yards. Sometimes lawn decor can be very interesting.:)

Sister missionaries wear skirts. Sometimes Sisters ride bikes. You have to be creative.:) Here I’m demo-ing how to create pants-like characteristics by safety pinning the dress next to the legs. It keeps a Sister from flashing the reminders of her covenant to the world.:)
